PARENTAL ADVISORY & SAFETY NOTICE

Kids Bikes andQuads.

We want your kids to enjoy their introduction to motorcycling. It is in everybody's interest that we, as a responsible retailer inform you, as responsible parents, of some common sense practices that will help ensure the safety of your child:

1. None of the kids’ bikes or Quads sold by Streetbike are for road use.
   They are all strictly FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY.
   They should never be ridden on public roads or public footpaths.
   They should never be ridden in any other area without the consent of the owner.
   And a bit about the law….
   The road is a dangerous place. Everybody knows it, so I doubt that you will let your kids anywhere near it.
   The footpath?
   Just in case you’re tempted, bear this in mind:
   1. These machines could cause injury to pedestrians. If your child is riding a motorised vehicle, that is involved in a collision with a pedestrian, on the footpath, you could be sued.
      In that event…my money would be on the pedestrian.
   2. In recent years, kids copped riding motorised scooters on the footpath, have had their “toys” confiscated by the police. You have been warned.
      
      
2. Always, always, always... read, and fully understand, the operators handbook before letting your child ride the machine. If your kids are old enough, get them to read it too. Particularly the sections on rider safety. If there is any doubt, explain…and keep explaining, until they fully understand the safe operation of their machine. It's a “dad-kid-quality time” opportunity. Use it well.
   
   

   Ask your salesman for the handbook at the point of order. As long as we have a deposit paid to secure the machine, we are happy to release the handbook in advance of collection. This allows time to read it thoroughly before the big day. Nobody needs a non-starter in front of the kids!

   
   
3. Always, always, always… ensure your kids wear approved safety gear whenever they are riding. We always have kids helmets in stock but some items of protective clothing and kids boots may need to be ordered. Definitely worth checking the gear out when you order the machine. Our clothing staff will be happy to offer advice on fitment.
   
   
4. REMEMBER… All kids bikes and Quads are designed for SOLO operation only. That is RIDER ONLY. NO PASSENGERS. FULL STOP.
   Carrying a passenger CAN make the machine unstable and unsafe.
   Carrying a passenger CAN cause the maximum weight limit to be exceeded. This could cause the mainframe to fail, which could cause an accident that resulted in serious injury. At the least, it will be an expensive repair. So please…Just don’t do it.
   
   
5. CHILD OPERATORS MUST BE SUPERVISED BY A RESPONSIBLE ADULT AT ALL TIMES.
   
   
6. All our Kids Quads and Kids Moto-X style machines should be ridden on grass and earth only. This includes Suzuki “JR” machines and 4 wheel Quads. Basically anything with knobbly tyres. These tyres don’t grip well on tarmac. Tarmac also wears out these tyres at a tremendous rate, particularly on the “big-tyred” Quads. Not recommended. Keep these bikes on the green stuff.
   
   If you are unsure about the suitability of your machine, contact a Streetbike staff member for information.
   
7. KEEP IT LOCKED AWAY… Don't give your nipper the chance to ride it, or even start it when you are not there.
   
   
8. KEEP IT MAINTAINED.
   If you've got a Suzuki Quad you'll need Streetbike to service it to keep the 6-month warranty valid.
   After the warranty period, if you've got some mechanical aptitude, why not have a go yourself. Spend time with your kids. Show them him how things work. How to maintain and look after things. Quality time to build a Quality attitude for life. It's fun. And trust me, in ten or even fifteen years time, we will still need mechanics. So start ‘em young.
   
   Just 2 points:
   1. If you're unsure, don't do it. Give us a call and book it in. It will be cheaper in the long run…honest!
   2. NEVER ALLOW ANY CHILD UNSUPERVISED ACCESS TO THE MACHINE.

And finally… A word about insurance.

Kids bikes are very desirable. Often to the wrong people. If you can, it’s worth getting insured. First call should be your household "contents" insurer. Many "contents" policies will cover the machine against theft while it’s on your property. They often need specific details of the machine and a copy of the purchase invoice, so they know what they are insuring.

Be prepared to fend off attempts to pass you through to their motorcycle quotation hotline. They may think you need road risk cover, which you don’t. Tell them it’s an off road kids bike and you should be o.k. It’s worth persevering because the extra premium required is often pretty tiny…. which is nice.
