FORGING A NEW STREET LEGEND

From the sharp lines defining the length of its body to the performance of its 152PS engine, every detail of the Suzuki KATANA speaks of distinctive beauty.

While its design cues pay due homage to the 1981 iconic GSX1100S KATANA, which stole the hearts of riders around the world, the KATANA is a thoroughly modern machine that is breathtaking to behold and inspiring to ride.

Suzuki has sharpened its Katana for 2022, with the updated machine getting more power and an improved suite of electronics.

The 2022 Katana will also come in new colours, with the sharp, angular bodywork that so obviously takes design cues from the original machine from the 1980s now finished in a dark matt blue, complemented by gold forks and wheels, while a dark grey iteration is set off by red wheels. A revised dash gets a new red ‘night mode’.

FORGED PERFECTION

The high performance 999cc four-stroke DOHC liquid-cooled inline-four engine that powers the Katana inherits true winning superbike DNA. This street-tuned engine is based on core architecture that benefits from know-how acquired over decades of developing the GSX-R to win countless production race victories, while also incorporating advanced technologies developed for MotoGP racing.

OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE

Japanese swordsmiths devote countless hours to repeatedly forge, hammer, fold the raw steel to achieve the right balance needed for the blade to perform optimally.

Fired by the same spirit, Suzuki’s development team tested and tuned each component to create a compact, lightweight chassis that is engineered to provide agility, ease of control and a fun-to-ride character.

DISTINCTIVE
EXHAUST ROAR

Twin catalysts in the exhaust keep emissions low to meet the latest Euro 5 standards. The exhaust system has a 4‑2‑1 design with equaliser pipes between the 1‑and‑4 and 2‑and‑3 header pipes. The system fine‑tunes the exhaust pulses for strong low‑to‑mid‑range output. The exhaust chamber after the joint section fits under the engine, so the muffler is minimally sized for a clean, agile look. A catalyser in the exhaust chamber keeps emissions low enough to satisfy the strict Euro 4 regulations. The exhaust pipe incorporates a Suzuki Exhaust Tuning (SET) system. A servo‑actuated butterfly valve opens to a degree calculated from the engine speed, throttle position, and gear position. It controls exhaust pressure waves to enhance combustion at low revs.

COMFORTABLE SEAT
AND SLIM BODYWORK

The sleek two-tone seat is comfortable, and the seat strap provides the passenger with a good grip. The seat height of 825mm provides comfort and allows riders to plant their feet on the ground when stopped. The slim design where the seat meets the fuel tank also helps make it easy for the rider’s feet to reach the ground.

FULLY ADJUSTABLE
FORKS

The Ø43mm KYB inverted front forks provide 120mm of stroke for a sporty yet plush ride. The forks feature fully adjustable damping, rebound, compression and spring pre-load. The 63mm stroke of the link-type rear suspension is tuned for a superb progressive feel and to react efficiently to road surface conditions, delivering an agile and stable feel. The rear suspension offers adjustable rebound damping and spring pre-load.

BREMBO RADIAL
BRAKES

Brembo radial mount monobloc front brake calipers are mated with Ø310mm floating-mount dual discs to provide powerful braking performance. Each caliper has four opposing Ø32mm pistons. The Antilock Brake System monitors wheel speed 50 times per wheel rotation, and matches stopping power to available traction. The ABS control unit, produced by BOSCH is compact and light weight.

BI-DIRECTIONAL QUICK
SHIFT SYSTEM

This feature kets you shift up or down more quickly and easily without the need to operate the clutch or throttle. When activated, Quick Shift automatically interrupts power delivery just long enough to produce smoother, almost uninterrupted acceleration when you shift up. When decelerating, the system automatically opens the throttle valves just enough to increase rpm and match engine speed to the next-lower gear ratio. The result of this hands-free automatic blipping function combines seamlessly with engine braking to create a highly satisfying experience when downshifting. Bi-directional Quick Shift works in unison with SDMS to bring you even greater riding fun with a more linear feel.

CLEAN TAIL
DESIGN

The KATANA uses a small rear mudguard supported by the swingarm that hugs the rear tyre. Moving it, along with the rear turn signals and number plate holder, to this position eliminates parts extending from under the seat to give the tail section clean lines and a purer, lighter look.
